Involvement of Parliamentarians in the COMESA Programme

Paliamentarians and the promotion of Peace and Security
In May 2002 during the 3rd Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs it was agreed that Parliaments have a responsibility in the promotion of peace and security in the region. In response to this the COMESA Programme for peace and security held training workshops for over 70 parliamentarians in the region on conflict prevention and management skills. These workshops were successful in not only providing skills to the parliamentarians but also in raising the interests of parliamentarians to carry out this role.
