Lusaka, Thursday, 24th November 2016: The COMESA Business Council will hold its 10th Annual General Meeting, Friday 25th November 2016. The meeting  will bring together the CBC membership, apex private and the public sector stakeholders from the 19 COMESA countries and development partners including the USAID.

Among the key items in the agenda of the meeting is the validation of the major achievement of the CBC during the period 2015-2016 as well as charting the road-map for 2017.  The AGM will be preceded by the election and installation of a new board a day before.

In addition, an award ceremony to recognized buyers that promote local sourcing in the region will be conducted. This is part of the CBC's Local Sourcing for Partnerships Project. Among the companies that will be awarded include the two hotels in Zambia – Taj Pamodzi Hotel and the Protea Hotel and BRALIRWA Breweries Limited of Rwanda. The meeting will be sponsored by USAID and Taj Pamodzi Hotel. The outcomes of the meeting will be streamlined in a post-meeting report.

Speaking ahead of the AGM the CBC Chairperson Dr. Amany Asfour said, “This has been a very important year for CBC, one in which we have gone to great lengths to ensure the inclusive participation of the private sector with regional integration agenda. This has been done through the engagement of strategic partnerships to develop tailor-made solutions to respond to our members’ needs and promote a competitive industrial outfit for the region.”
