Thirty-three journalists drawn from the print and electronic media in Zambia participated in a one day interaction and networking programme conducted by the COMESA Corporate Communications Unit. The event at Siavonga town, south east of Zambia, was aimed at strengthen ties with the local media who serve as the main communication channels for regional integration news and information. This is by virtue of their proximity to the COMESA Secretariat.
It was also intended to establish new networks and deepen existing collaboration with the media. This was in addition to updating the journalists on the status of regional integration, as well as appreciating their support to the Secretariat through coverage and publicizing of COMESA events. The event is expected to improve accurate and increased reporting on COMESA regional integration programmes and activities. The journalists appreciated the recognition accorded to them as key players in regional integration and urged the Secretariat to consider hosting similar forums more frequently.
