Cairo, Sunday, September 25, 2016: Egypt has confirmed its participation in the forthcoming 19th COMESA Summit and policy organs meetings scheduled to take place in Madagascar from 10 – 19 October 2016. This was done during a meeting in Cairo, between the Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade Tarek Qabil (picture right) and the Secretary General Sindiso Ngwenya.

The two discussed the importance of encouraging trade flows and logistics services between COMESA member states in strengthening regional integration met with the minister. The SG briefed Minister Tarek on the program of the upcoming COMESA summit and stressed the importance of Egypt's participation at the highest level.

Minister Tarek assured the SG that Egypt will participate in the COMESA summit. He said the Egyptian government is paying more attention to regional integration through the establishment of logistics center in Kenya as well as direct shipping lines with other African countries. This is in addition to increasing the Egyptian presence in African countries, establishing offices of commercial attaches and opening of new commercial offices.

The minister also requested SG's support in resolving trade issues between Egypt and Sudan that arose since the banning of Egyptian fruits, vegetables, and ceramics exports from entering the Sudanese market.
