In the year 2014, the Government of Malawi gave the Federation of National Associations of Women in Business in Eastern and Southern Africa (FEMCOM) Secretariat a 10-acre land in a prime area to construct a business complex.
The then President of Malawi, Joyce Banda handed over the title deed to COMESA Secretary General, Sindiso Ngwenya at a ceremony held at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe, Malawi.
This plot is earmarked for development and will host enterprise development facilities, business incubation centers and science and technology facilities.
As a follow up to the government’s support, in December 2016, the 10th FEMCOM board held a ceremony to endorse the plot through a climate change mitigation exercise by planting trees on the premises.
The FEMCOM board Chairperson Joanne Mwangi Yelbert spearheaded this exercise, which is in line with the Government of Malawi’s quest to beautify the cities in various parts of the country as well as an endorsement of the support given by the government to women empowerment.
