The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa-Comesa says the basis of achieving economic development among member countries lies in Small and Medium Enterprises-SME's.
Comesa Secretary General Sindiso Ngwenya says developing the SME sector is the best way of eradicating poverty at grassroot level.
Mr. Ngwenya was speaking this morning when French Ambassador to Zambia Marie-Annick Bourdin presented her credentials as Special Representative to Comesa.
He also applauded France for continuing to push for Africa's development in all spheres.
And Ms. Bourdin says her country is fully aware of the benefits that come along with economic integration.
She pledged to strengthen cooperation between her country and Comesa during her stay in Zambia.
A minute of silence was also observed at the start of the occasion in memory four people that were shot dead at a Jewish school in Toulouse.
