The Assistant Secretary-General, Programmes, Ambassador Kipyego Cheluget, has conveyed a message of congratulations and good will from the COMESA Secretary-General, Mr Sindiso Ngwenya to the President-elect of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta.
Ambassador Kipyego also conveyed a congratulatory message to the Kenyan Vice-President elect, His Excellency William Ruto, in Nairobi, Kenya on 14 March 2013.
In the message, the Secretary-General wished the newly elected Kenyan leadership well, as they execute the new mandate. Mr Ngwenya stated that once again Kenya had demonstrated leadership in Africa by holding peaceful elections under a new constitutional dispensation.
At the ceremony, held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta said that he looks forward to working closely with COMESA, as he had done previously in his capacity as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade. He conveyed fraternal greetings to the Secretary-General, and extended his invitation to COMESA to attend the inauguration ceremony, once all the legal issues had been sorted out.
