President of Madagascar His Excellency Hery Rajaonarimampianina who is the current chair of the COMESA Authority of Heads of State paid a visit to the COMESA Secretariat in Lusaka, Thursday June 8, 2017.
Secretary General Mr. Sindiso Ngwenya led the staff in welcoming the President who was on his first state visit to Zambia and the Secretariat. On arrival, the President was received with a bouquet of flowers and then proceeded to the Secretary General’s Office for a briefing.
In his one and half hour visit, President Rajaonarimampianina addressed the staff, COMESA ambassadors and high commisioners at the conference hall, had photo opportunities with the staff and planted a commemorative tree.
In his address to staff, the Chair of the COMESA Authority stressed the need to deepen regional integration among the regional body’s 19 Member States. He also spoke about the importance of clean energy in mitigating and addressing the harmful effects of climate change.
Regarding peace and security he called on member States to maintain peace in order to develop their economies.
The Secretary General described the President’s visit to the Secretariat as a testimony of his commitment towards the growth of regional integration.
