The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) is a regional organization of 19 countries that have come together with the ultimate objective of creating a fully integrated and internationally competitive and unified region in which goods, services, capital and persons move freely. The principal route that has been chosen in order to realise this goal is integration through development of trade and investment.
Increased understanding and awareness is vital in garnering support and participation in the integration process across the 19-member States with a combined population of over 500 million people. Hence the need to gain and deepen such understanding and awareness cannot be gainsaid given that integration for development is dependent upon public and political support. An essential role of COMESA therefore is to raise public awareness so that (1) knowledge generated in the implementation of regional integration is widely disseminated and contributes to policy and decision-making processes and (2) regional integration issues are integrated into broader national development objectives and planning, including the attainment of the Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
As stipulated in COMESA’s 2016-2020 Medium Term Strategic Plan (MTSP), one of COMESA’s key challenges is how to communicate the economic community’s overall value and benefit. There’s thus a specific need for the sort of communication tools that not only demonstrate COMESA’s progress from the PTA, but to show the value of COMESA’s vast array of trade and investment facilitation tools and institutions.
Pursuant to this goal, COMESA intends to produce a high-level corporate film that will be both an educational and informative tool for policy makers, technical officials and other stakeholders.
