Antananarivo, Thursday, 1st February 2018: Secretary General Sindiso Ngwenya this morning met the President of Madagascar His Excellency Mr. Hery Rajaonarimampianina in Antananarivo to brief him on preparations for the upcoming Policy Organs meetings and the 20th COMESA Heads of State and Government Summit to be hosted in Burundi.
President Rajaonarimampianina has been the Chairperson of the COMESA Authority since 2016. He will be handing over to President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi in April this year at the Summit.
During their discussions at State House, Mr. Ngwenya expressed gratitude to President Rajaonarimampianina for his visionary leadership.
“During his tenure, we have witnessed the deepening of regional integration for the benefit and improved standards of living of citizens in COMESA Member States,” Ngwenya said.
During the Burundi Summit, a new COMESA Secretary General is expected to be appointed as the two term tenure of the incumbent comes to a close.
