Legal experts from 10 COMESA member States met in Lusaka for the 22nd Meeting of the Committee on Legal Affairs from 14 to 17 May 2018.
The Committee reviewed various reports relating legal and human resource rules and regulations of COMESA Secretariat, COMESA Court of Justice and the COMESA Competition Commission.
Delegates were drawn from D R Congo, Egypt, Eswatini, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Reports considered by the Committee included the Draft Executive Management Staff Rules and Regulations of the COMESA Competition Commission; the report of the 16th Meeting of the Legal Drafting Sub Committee encompassing the draft Amendments to the COMESA Court of Justice Arbitration Rules.
The meeting also considered the Report of the 17th Meeting of the Legal Drafting Sub Committee specifically the Instruments establishing the COMESA Seamless Airspace Project and the Progress Report of the COMESA Court of Justice. The Report on Signature, Ratification and Domestication of COMESA Legal Instruments was also considered.
The Committee’s final report shall be submitted to the 21st meeting of Ministers of Justice and Attorneys General, on 18 May 2018 at the COMESA Secretariat, for consideration.
