Mr Deogratias Kamweya is the Head – Resource Mobilisation & International Cooperation at the COMESA secretariat. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Kamweya worked for the Government of Uganda as an economist in the Ministry Finance, Planning and Economic Development and later moved to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives at the rank of principal economist.
As a government officer, Mr. Kamweya spearheaded a number of economic programmes, government policies and reforms. He was very instrumental in the development of the Uganda national policy on standards and quality infrastructure, the Uganda Joint Assistance Strategy (UJAS) and the lead coordinator for the negotiations of the joint Uganda and Development Partners cooperation principles.
Mr. Kamweya has been in charge of managing key projects both in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives as well as in the Ministry Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
At the regional level, Mr. Kamweya was one of the chief negotiators (Uganda) on the East African Customs Union and Common Market where he was awarded a certificate of recognition by the Former Deputy 1st Prime Minister and Minister of East Africa Affairs, the late Rgt Hon. Eriya Kategaya.
Mr. Kamweya has also worked as an advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Political Federation at the East African Secretariat in Arusha, Tanzania
