- The TIDOs are very instrumental in the provision of facilitation services and relevant trade information to traders crossing the borders as well as those seeking to form themselves into a formalized grouping. The Desks also collect trade related data, receive and contribute to resolving trader’s complaints and improving relationships between traders and border authorities as well as relationships between traders themselves.
- The role of the Trade Information Desk Officer is to serve as an aide in facilitating the movement of small-scale traders across borders, by providing them with the necessary information and documents as required by the applicable laws and regulations, and following the procedures established under the COMESA Simplified Trade Regime (STR) and the Minimum Standards for the Treatment of Cross-Border Traders. In this regard, the officer shall, in collaboration with the relevant border agencies, the CBTAs and COMESA Secretariat, play a monitoring role in relation to the implementation of the Simplified Trade Regime and the Minimum Standards for the Treatment of Small-scale cross-border traders.
