Staff Develop Revamped Scorecard to Enhance Secretariat Performance

Lusaka, Zambia Friday 11 July, 2025 — Selected staff members from the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Headquarters met in Lusaka from July 9 to 11 to participate in a strategic workshop aimed at strengthening the organization’s operational effectiveness. The workshop focused on developing a revamped results-based Balanced Scorecard aligned with the organization’s upcoming Medium-Term Strategic Plan (MTSP) for 2026–2030.

Led by Mr. Dumisani Banda, the Director of Human Resources and Administration, the team comprised staff from various divisions and units from the secretariat. Together, they brainstormed and drafted a new performance measurement framework designed to improve how COMESA supports its stakeholders and achieve its objectives.

During the final day of the workshop, Acting Secretary General Dr. Dev Haman joined the team and emphasized the importance of the Balanced Scorecard as a vital management tool. He highlighted its relevance not only for organizational success but also for individual growth.

“Regional integration is not an option… it is a shared future,” Dr. Haman stated. “I commend everyone for actively participating in this crucial exercise. The document we are developing will help us communicate our work effectively and ensure we provide meaningful support to our Member States.”

The workshop marks a significant step towards operational excellence and strategic alignment within COMESA as the organization prepares to implement its new strategic framework over the coming years.
