The COMESA Media Awards is an annual event conducted by the COMESA Secretariat to promote regional integration activities being implemented by the organisation through multimedia publicity. The award aims to promote reporting on COMESA regional integration activities by recognizing journalists whose works contribute to the integration agenda.

The Winners awarded during the 24th Summit are from Burundi, Uganda and Zambia.

In the Print Media Category, Ms Nkombo Kachemba from the Zambia Daily Mail Newspaper got the top prize with an article on the importance of regional integration in mitigating power deficits in the COMESA region.

Ms Raissa – Liliane Inamahoro from the Radio Television Isanganiro Burundi won in the Television Category with a programme focusing on the disparity between intra-COMESA trade and extra-COMESA trade noting that 91% of commercial products used in member countries come from outside this community.

The winner in the Radio Category is Mr Remmy Rukundo from Radio/TV Ubuntu in Burundi whose programme was on the promotion of the COMESA regional integration programmes by highlighting benefits, challenges and proposed solutions.

Mr Gashegu Muramura from the New Times of Rwanda won in the Online Category with an article on how the COMESA Competition Commission and the African Consumers movement are working to close gaps in ensuring consumers voices are included in the global plastic pollution treaty.
