New Head of EU, Italy Diplomatic Missions Accredited to COMESA

Lusaka, Tuesday, October 8, 2019: The new Head of Delegation of the European Union Commission to Zambia Mr Jacek Jankowski, and the new Italian Ambassador to Zambia, Mr. Antonino Maggiore were today accredited as the Special Representatives of their Missions to COMESA. The two presented their letters of accreditation to the Secretary General of COMESA, Chileshe Kapwepwe in her office in Lusaka.

The EU is the largest contributor to the COMESA regional integration programmes. Currently, it has provided 85 million Euros under the 11th European Development Fund to support trade facilitation, small scale cross border trade and capacity building programmes.

In an earlier programme, the EU provided 110 million Euros under the COMESA Adjustment Facility, to support Member States address loss of tax revenues resulting from trade liberalization process, carry out policy reforms and global competitiveness.
